Stakeholders at a capacity-building workshop on child marriage in Accra have called on the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection in Ghana to provide financial support to victims and survivors of child marriage.
The request aims to prevent girls from falling back into child marriage due to financial constraints, particularly in cases where parents may be irresponsible.
The stakeholders emphasized the importance of financial investment as a means to empower and support girls, preventing them from succumbing to societal pressures that might lead to child marriage.
The call for financial support is part of ongoing efforts to address child marriage in Ghana, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Agenda, which includes a specific target to eliminate child marriage by 2030.
The Child Marriage Information Portal, launched in September 2021, serves as a one-stop-shop database system on child marriage, providing information and resources related to child marriage, sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), and related issues.
The stakeholders highlighted the need for practical support, including financial assistance, to ensure the successful reintegration of girls into education and prevent the recurrence of child marriage situations.
