National Sports College trains 85 in Sports Management and Administration

The National Sports College, Winneba, has successfully trained 85 sports enthusiasts in Sports Management and Administration as part of efforts to strengthen Ghana’s human resource capacity in the sports sector.

The certificate course, held at the Winneba campus, attracted participants from varied backgrounds, including coaches, administrators, lawyers, doctors, referees, and retired referees.

Dr. Austin Luguterah, Director of Sports at the University of Ghana and one of the facilitators, underscored the importance of the training:

“The sports management administration course is a professional course designed for sports practitioners. We try to blend theory and practical knowledge. This is the way to go, moving away from old ways to globally recognized, research-backed practices.”

Prof. Daniel Apaak, Associate Professor at the University of Cape Coast, described the programme as “insightful and educative”, adding that participants are expected to leave with innovative approaches to improve sports administration in the country.

Mr. Bawah Fuseini, Director of the college, commended the facilitators for their dedication and expressed satisfaction with the programme’s success. He revealed that the college would soon introduce an intermediate course to build on the foundation laid.

Some participants told GNA Sports that they found the course highly beneficial and appealed to government to resource the National Sports College adequately to enable it to deliver on its mandate of developing sports professionals.
