Black Stars coach Otto Addo visits injured Tariq Lamptey in Italy as Ghana names 24-man squad for 2026 World Cup qualifiers

Black Stars coach Otto Addo has travelled to Italy to visit defender Tariq Lamptey, who is sidelined with an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, ahead of Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Lamptey, the former Brighton right-back now at Fiorentina, underwent successful surgery and is expected to be out for approximately six months. Consequently, he will miss Ghana’s upcoming matches against the Central African Republic at the Stade d’Honneur de Meknes on October 8, 2025, and the home clash with Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium four days later.

In preparation for the qualifiers, Addo has named a 24-man squad, which features two debutants: midfielder Prince Owusu from Medeama SC and Kojo Peprah Oppong of French club OGC Nice.

The squad also includes regulars such as goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, defender Alexander Djiku, midfielders Thomas Partey and Mohammed Kudus, and Captain Jordan Ayew. Addo’s selections signal a blend of experienced internationals and emerging talents as Ghana aims to secure qualification for a fifth World Cup appearance.
