The 37-year-old converted a second-half penalty after being fouled by Ghana defender Mohammed Salisu, marking another milestone in his illustrious career just days after leaving Manchester United by mutual agreement.

Despite the historic goal, Ronaldo endured a mixed performance. He missed an early one-on-one opportunity and had limited involvement in Portugal’s build-up play, finishing the match with the fewest touches and completed passes among the starting outfield players. Nevertheless, his goal proved pivotal in Portugal’s victory.
Ghana adopted a disciplined defensive approach for much of the contest, frustrating Portugal during the opening hour and limiting clear-cut opportunities. However, the Black Stars grew into the game after Ronaldo’s opener.
Mohammed Kudus, who struggled during the early stages of the match, became increasingly influential after being moved into a more advanced role. The Ajax midfielder drove to the byline before setting up captain André Ayew for Ghana’s equaliser.
Portugal restored their advantage with two further goals, but Ghana refused to give up and reduced the deficit to keep the closing stages tense.
The Black Stars came agonisingly close to snatching a dramatic equaliser in stoppage time when Iñaki Williams dispossessed Portugal goalkeeper Diogo Costa, only to slip before he could convert into an empty net.
Although Ghana left the match without a point, their spirited second-half display provided encouragement ahead of their remaining Group H fixtures, while Portugal began their World Cup campaign with a crucial victory.
