Wesley Girls High School in Cape Coast has found itself facing significant challenges, with many students compelled to sleep on the floor due to overcrowding and congestion. The head prefect and headmistress have both acknowledged the dire situation, highlighting the urgent need for assistance to address the inadequate infrastructure.
During the school's speech and prize-giving day held recently, the Girls' Prefect, Abena Benewah, disclosed the troubling conditions faced by the students, including hundreds of them having to sleep on the floor due to overcrowding. She also mentioned the need for government intervention to alleviate the situation, emphasizing the persistent shortage of furniture and the lack of computers in the IT laboratory.
The headmistress, Jeannette Ruby Siameh, echoed these sentiments, noting that despite assistance from old students, the school continues to face various challenges. She emphasized the need for the completion of the new assembly hall, the acquisition of buses, and the improvement of road networks within the school premises.
Addressing the students and management during the event, President Akufo-Addo assured them of government support. However, he also took the opportunity to criticize former President Mahama for questioning the authenticity of the WASSCE results, describing the comments as unfortunate and misguided. President Akufo-Addo highlighted the improved quality of education under the free senior high school program, citing the positive outcomes of the WASSCE results in recent years.
