The parliamentary committee investigating the chaos during the vetting of ministerial nominees will commence public hearings on Wednesday, February 5, 2025.
The committee, chaired by Ho West MP Emmanuel Bedzrah, was established by Speaker Alban Bagbin following violent clashes between the Majority and Minority on January 30, which resulted in property damage and disruptions. The committee has a 10-day deadline to present its findings and recommendations.

Addressing the media on February 3, Mr. Bedzrah assured that the inquiry would be transparent and impartial.
“The committee would like to place on record that it is not part of its job to target or witch-hunt anyone. We’re not here to witch-hunt any of our colleagues or Members of Parliament. This work is to look for evidence of any Member of Parliament who may have flouted the rules of engagement in this house,” he stated.
The seven-member committee includes Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi, Gizella Akushika Tetteh-Agbotui, Abena Osei Asare, Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, Vincent Oppong Asamoah, and Bede Anwataazuma Ziedeng.
To encourage public participation, the committee has launched a WhatsApp platform for information submissions. Witnesses, including MPs, journalists, and attendees, are invited to testify about the chaotic scenes that marred the proceedings.
Speaker Bagbin emphasized that no public funds will be used to repair damages caused by the altercations. Instead, MPs found guilty of misconduct will be surcharged.
Meanwhile, four MPs have been suspended for two weeks due to their roles in the disturbances. The committee’s final report is expected to restore accountability and decorum in Parliament.
