Parliament committee assesses petroleum sector during NPA visit

The Parliamentary Select Committee on Energy has undertaken a working visit to the National Petroleum Authority as part of its oversight responsibilities.

Chairman of the Committee, Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, said the visit was to familiarise members with the Authority’s operations and explore areas for parliamentary support.

He noted that the NPA regulates Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector, which is critical to national energy security.

The Committee is also assessing whether the country has sufficient petroleum stock to meet demand, amid concerns that rising geopolitical tensions, including the US-Iran conflict, could affect supply and pricing.

Mr Bedzrah added that the Committee will engage the Authority on a proposed petroleum bill, which may be reviewed and presented to Parliament under a certificate of urgency.
