Hon. Bernard Ahiafor – MP for Akatsi South and First Deputy Speaker

Hon. Bernard Ahiafor is the Member of Parliament for Akatsi South, representing the constituency under the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Born on Tuesday, 6th February 1973, he hails from Atidzive in the Volta Region and is a Christian by faith. He is currently serving in the 8th Parliament, having previously served in the 6th and 7th Parliaments.

He holds a first degree from the University of Ghana, obtained in 2000, and completed his professional law training at the Ghana School of Law in 2002. He also earned a Diploma in Applied Insurance from the Ghana Insurance College in 2009. His academic journey began at Atidzive R.C. Primary School and continued through Akatsi R.C. Middle School, Abor Secondary School, and Keta Secondary School, where he completed his Ordinary and Advanced Level certificates.

Before entering Parliament, Hon. Ahiafor built a strong career in legal practice and insurance. He worked as Head of Legal and Claims at Star Assurance Company Limited and was a member of both Kwame Gyan & Associates and JustKing & Associates law firms.

In Parliament, he chairs both the Appointments Committee and the Privileges and Immunities Committee. He also serves as Ranking Member on the Independent Constitutional Bodies Committee and is a member of the Employment, Labour Relations and Pensions Committee.
