Member of Parliament for Tano North, Gideon Boako, has rejected claims that former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia should not be given another chance to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) following his defeat in the 2024 presidential election.
His comments come in response to suggestions from factions within the NPP, particularly camps of other flagbearer aspirants, that Bawumia’s loss disqualified him from future consideration as the party’s presidential candidate.

Speaking on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News on Thursday, August 28, Boako, who also serves as a Technical Advisor and Spokesperson to Dr. Bawumia, stressed that defeat in one election does not mark the end of a politician’s career.
“The downfall of a man is never the end of his life. He is not the first to attempt the presidential seat and lose it. Others tried, they lost, they persevered with tenacity, and they were able to make it,” he said.
Boako drew parallels with Ghana’s recent political history, citing leaders who overcame earlier defeats before eventually rising to the presidency.
“He equally believes that, if Kufuor tried once, twice and made it, Akufo-Addo tried multiple times and made it, Mills tried multiple times and made it, John Mahama also tried multiple times and made it, why should he sit back?
“He also thinks God will be on his side. He will try again, and he can make it such that he can deliver to Ghana what he thinks God has given him,” Boako added.
The MP urged the NPP to rally behind Bawumia, arguing that persistence has historically paved the way for Ghana’s most successful political leaders.
