President John Dramani Mahama has called on the newly sworn-in members of the Council of State to offer informed, non-partisan guidance on governance, policy, and national development.

Speaking at their swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday, February 18, Mahama emphasized the Council’s role as a crucial advisory body with a responsibility that extends beyond ceremonial duties. He urged members to leverage their diverse backgrounds and experience to provide sound counsel that will help address the nation’s pressing challenges.

“The Council of State was established to serve as a fountain of guidance, a reservoir of experience, and a source of non-partisan insight for the executive arm of government,” Mahama stated. “As a distinguished advisory body, it is composed of men and women with integrity, experience, and sound judgment.”

He highlighted the country’s current economic difficulties, social cohesion issues, and the need to strengthen democratic institutions, stressing that these challenges demand selfless service, constructive dialogue, and patriotic commitment from the Council.

“Your role is not merely ceremonial—it is one of profound responsibility. You are expected to offer wise counselling on matters of governance, policy, and national development, drawing from your diverse expertise,” he said.

Mahama urged the Council to ensure that their contributions go beyond rhetoric, calling for practical and transformative recommendations that will help propel the nation forward.
