President John Dramani Mahama has inspected newly acquired transformers at the Northern Electricity Distribution Company yard in Tamale as part of efforts to stabilise power supply.
He said many existing transformers have become overstretched due to increased demand, noting that infrastructure installed decades ago is now serving larger populations, resulting in supply instability.

The President expressed optimism about the energy sector and outlined plans to localise transformer production to strengthen capacity and ensure long-term sustainability. He also commended NEDCo and the Electricity Company of Ghana for their efforts.
Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, said the government is deploying high-capacity transformers and plans to install more units across the Northern operational area to reduce overloading and improve system stability.
He said that although about 400 transformers were initially requested for the region, the government is providing 500 to enhance power distribution and reliability, and appealed to the public for patience as installations continue.
The intervention forms part of measures under the Resetting Ghana agenda to modernise energy infrastructure and improve power supply nationwide.
