President Steinmeier, who is on a three-day state visit to Ghana, reviewed Ghana-Germany relations with his host, noting the two nations’ long and constructive history since the establishment of formal diplomatic ties in 1957.
President Mahama lauded Germany’s longstanding support to Ghana in health, education, vocational training, renewable energy, governance, and peacekeeping—interventions he said continue to bolster youth empowerment and institutional development.
He also briefed President Steinmeier on Ghana’s economic reforms under the “Resetting Ghana” agenda, aimed at restoring stability, fighting corruption, improving public financial management, and rebuilding investor confidence.
The talks highlighted new areas of collaboration, including:
- Renewable energy and green industrialisation
- Digital transformation
- Skills training and TVET development
- Labour mobility agreements to create structured employment pathways for young Ghanaian professionals in Germany
- Support for AfCFTA, positioning Ghana as a gateway for German investment into Africa‘s 1.3 billion-person market
President Steinmeier reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to regional security and pledged continued support for the Accra Initiative, which works to prevent terrorism spillover from the Sahel and combat organised crime across member states.
