Ghana and Japan have announced a strengthened bilateral partnership with three priority initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure and agriculture in Ghana.

Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Foreign Minister of Ghana, shared the details in a statement on April 2, 2025, following a productive engagement with Her Excellency Suzuki Momoko, the Chief Representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Ghana.

The initiatives include:

  1. Reviving the Volivo to Dorfor Adidome bridge project, which will connect the Greater Accra, Volta, and Eastern Regions.
  2. Constructing an interchange in the Ashanti Region to alleviate congestion.
  3. Providing technical support to boost rice production in Ghana.

Additionally, Ghana will be fully represented at the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9), where discussions will explore further partnerships, particularly in scaling up Ghana’s chocolate exports to Japan. The demand for Ghanaian chocolate in Japan continues to rise, presenting a significant opportunity for increased trade.
