The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, in collaboration with the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo), has announced a planned power outage in parts of the Central Region, particularly Cape Coast and surrounding communities.

According to a press release dated January 6, 2026, the interruption in power supply will take place on Thursday, January 8, 2026, from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

The planned outage is to enable GRIDCo engineers to replace the existing 33MVA transformer at the Cape Coast Substation with a new 66MVA transformer. The Ministry said the upgrade is part of government’s broader agenda to strengthen and expand the national power transmission infrastructure.

The replacement is expected to significantly increase the substation’s capacity, improve the reliability and stability of power supply, and allow more households and businesses in Cape Coast and its environs to connect to the national grid.

The Ministry assured the public that all necessary measures have been put in place to ensure the work is completed efficiently and within the scheduled timeframe to restore power as quickly as possible.

While apologising for any inconvenience the outage may cause, the Ministry and GRIDCo reaffirmed their commitment to delivering reliable and improved power supply to support national development.
