The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ghana, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has met with the United Kingdom‘s Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, Yvette Cooper, to discuss ways of deepening the historical ties between the two countries.

The discussions, described as “exceptionally fruitful and substantive”, focused on expanding trade, supporting entrepreneurship, and enhancing security cooperation.

Both sides noted that trade between Ghana and the UK has already increased by 10%, and they explored strategies to open new markets for Ghanaian and British businesses.

A key part of the engagement was identifying opportunities to support young entrepreneurs and foster innovation. Security cooperation, particularly on counterterrorism initiatives, was also emphasized as an area of shared interest.

As part of efforts to strengthen bilateral ties, the two countries have announced a grand investment summit scheduled for May, which will be held under the patronage of President John Dramani Mahama.

The summit aims to build on recent gains and create sustainable avenues for investment and business collaboration.

Both Ghana and the UK reaffirmed their commitment to solidifying a strategic alliance that benefits trade, security, and development for both nations.
