Outrage over alleged unprofessionalism at Ghana Consulate General in New York

A Ghanaian woman, identified as Yaa Tabby, has shared her harrowing experience at the Consulate General of Ghana in New York, expressing frustration and dismay over the treatment she received during a visit to pick up her brother-in-law's visa.

According to her detailed account, Yaa Tabby arrived at the consulate around 2:09 pm to collect her brother-in-law's visa, which the consulate had refused to mail. Upon arrival, she followed the protocol of writing down her brother-in-law's name and number and was asked to wait for her turn.

During her wait, she observed several individuals picking up visas, including a young lady who had missed her mother's name being called and was instructed to wait for the next round of names. However, Yaa Tabby became alarmed when she noticed a man with dreadlocks, who seemed familiar with one of the waiting individuals, entering the office marked “STAFF ONLY” and later distributing passports and visas.

Yaa Tabby questioned the unauthorized individual's actions, prompting a dismissive response from consulate staff. Despite her concerns, she was eventually called to the window, where she was informed that she needed an authorization letter from her brother-in-law, which had to be sent via email. When her brother-in-law promptly sent the letter, Yaa Tabby was told to print it out, as the consulate allegedly lacked printing facilities.

Infuriated by the treatment she received and the lack of professionalism demonstrated by consulate staff, Yaa Tabby expressed her frustration, highlighting the disrespectful behaviour and apparent disregard for protocol. She also criticized the staff's use of the Ga language to discuss her situation, believing they were mocking her.

In her post addressed to the , Yaa Tabby questioned the suitability of the consulate staff to represent Ghana, emphasizing the need for integrity and professionalism in diplomatic service.
