NPP Delegates Vote in Regional Primaries, Incidents Reported Across Constituencies

The New Patriotic Party () has initiated its parliamentary primaries in constituencies with sitting MPs as part of preparations for the upcoming December elections. The lead-up to the primaries was marked by a series of injunctions during the vetting processes.

In 2023, the party successfully elected parliamentary candidates in constituencies without incumbents. In some cases, sitting MPs facing no opposition have been acclaimed in their respective constituencies, while others have declared their decisions not to seek re-election, each citing distinct reasons.

The decisions of these influential MPs have sparked debates among political activists and stakeholders, with concerns raised about potential negative impacts on parliamentary activities.

As the primaries unfold, numerous new candidates have entered the race, aspiring to secure victory and represent their constituencies. Incumbent MPs seeking re-election remain optimistic about winning the primaries and progressing to the 2024 general elections.

The General Secretary of the party, in a press briefing, issued a stern warning against any violations of rules by party members, security personnel, and delegates, emphasizing that such actions would not be tolerated.

Today's primaries are expected to witness the emergence of new candidates and, in some instances, the fall of sitting MPs. The successful candidates will go on to face their rivals from the National Democratic Congress (), candidates from other political parties, and independent parliamentary candidates in the upcoming elections.
