Justin Kodua Frimpong, the General Secretary of Ghana's ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has refuted criticisms regarding the timing of the recent government reshuffle, asserting that the appointees are competent and capable of delivering results despite the proximity to the general elections.
In an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Eyewitness News, Frimpong emphasized that effective governance does not necessarily require a lengthy tenure, likening the impact of competent leaders to players who can score goals even in injury time. He stressed the importance of appointees' ability to foster positive relationships with stakeholders in addition to achieving results.
Frimpong expressed confidence in the newly appointed officials, highlighting their youthfulness, motivation, and eagerness to contribute to the government's agenda. He noted that their performance over the remaining months leading to the elections could secure their positions in the future government if the NPP retains power.
Regarding President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo's reshuffle, Frimpong expressed satisfaction with the radical changes made, asserting that the new appointees would work diligently to achieve the government's objectives. He underscored the importance of the reshuffle for national development and reiterated the party's support for the President's decision.
Frimpong had previously called for a reshuffle during the party's annual Thanksgiving service, emphasizing the need for new faces to drive the NPP's agenda and addressing concerns about certain appointees' conduct affecting the party's popularity.
Overall, Frimpong's remarks reflect the NPP's confidence in the newly appointed officials and their commitment to delivering results despite the limited time before the elections.
