The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the Awutu Senya East constituency, Naa Koryoo Okunor, has demonstrated support for individuals affected by violence during the voter registration exercise in August 2020.
She presented three motorcycles to party agents whose bikes were allegedly burnt at the Steps to Christ Registration Centre.
During the incident, Awutu Senya East's Member of Parliament, Mavis Hawa Koomson, fired gunshots in self-defence, claiming she was attacked by some NDC supporters. The actions of the MP generated public criticism and defence.
Naa Koryoo Okunor, addressing the situation, expressed concern over the lack of progress in the police investigation, stating, “These issues were reported to the Police in the Central Region, and we hear that the CID in charge of the case has been transferred because of the nature of the case. We have followed up the matter to the police headquarters but nothing has been done.”
As a gesture of support, Okunor presented three motorcycles to the affected party agents, acknowledging their challenges.
“I am a mother, and I decided to buy the motorbikes for the individuals. I also hear they are into okada business, and life has been a challenge without the motorbikes,” she explained.
Recipients of the donated motorcycles expressed gratitude for the assistance.
Edmund Morty, one of the affected agents, shared his difficulties in providing for his family in the months following the incident.
He welcomed the donation, stating, “I use the bike for okada, and life was difficult for me and my family, but now that I have a new bike, it is a sign of relief.”
