Jim Morti, the leading contender in the Ketu South National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary race, has declared that his main focus if elected, will be the empowerment of women and youth in the area. Morti expressed his commitment to improving the livelihoods of the vulnerable during an interview with the media in Aflao.
With extensive expertise in the mining, construction, transport, and logistics sectors, Morti, a renowned businessman, is credited with numerous philanthropic and developmental projects within Ketu South and other regions. He has consistently been moved by the plight of the less fortunate in society, which has fueled his determination to provide assistance in any way possible to help them improve their lives.
Mr Morti, who previously contested the parliamentary seat in 2012 but narrowly lost to former Deputy Minister of Finance and NDC General Secretary, Mr Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, is now taking a second shot at the primary in his home constituency.

In 2016, he ran as an independent candidate for the Ketu South Parliamentary seat after facing unfounded allegations of fraud and other charges levelled against him by his party members, allegedly backed by Mr Kwetey.
The smear campaigns led to Morti's suspension from the party in the constituency. However, driven by his love for the people of Ketu South, he decided to stand as an independent candidate to demonstrate his dedication and prove that he had the community's best interests at heart. Mr Morti emphasized that no amount of vilification or intimidation could deter him from working to improve the fortunes of his people.
Subsequently, a committee was formed to investigate the allegations against Morti, and he was cleared of all charges and reinstated into the party, as the committee found the allegations baseless and lacking merit.
Jim Morti, also known as “The Game Changer” among his supporters, believes he is the ideal candidate for the parliamentary seat. Over the years, he has spearheaded several development projects within the Ketu South constituency using his personal resources. Morti is confident that he will be able to accomplish even more as the elected Member of Parliament (MP) for the area.
Humanitarian works
Some of the notable projects executed by Morti during the 2016 general election campaign as an independent candidate for the Ketu South Constituency include the construction of classroom blocks for Atsiaklorbor Basic School and Aflao-Anoenu Basic School, the Agbozume Adawukope Water Project, the donation of 500 plastic chairs to the 5 zones of the party, the provision of an iron shed for motorbike riders at Kpoglu, the donation of a tractor to assist farmers in the constituency with ploughing their fields, and support for 20 youth to acquire apprenticeship training in tailoring and hairdressing.
Furthermore, Morti revealed that he is currently building a Fruit Processing Factory in Agbozume, aimed at empowering the youth by providing meaningful employment opportunities. He also mentioned the ongoing construction of a clinic facility at Klikor Tekpekope, which, upon completion, will address the shortage of quality healthcare in the municipality.
Future of Plans
In his plans for 2024, Morti has set his sights on establishing a Coconut Processing Factory in the municipality to process the abundant coconut resources into various finished products for local consumption and export.
Additionally, he pledged to collaborate with relevant authorities to ensure that the kente weaving industry, a vital trade in the Some Traditional Area, receives the necessary materials and logistical support at affordable and subsidized rates to enhance artisans' incomes.
Jim Morti, who is highly favoured by his supporters and a cross-section of delegates, is widely tipped to win the Ketu South NDC primary on May 13. In light of this, he urged all NDC faithful, especially the delegates, to disregard the malicious allegations that have been levelled against him in the past.
