NDC youth group protests arrest of Regional Vice Chairman, locks party office: Ghana News

A youth group affiliated with the National Democratic Congress () at Tohazie expressed their dissatisfaction on Tuesday by storming the Regional Secretariat in and locking up the office.

The protest is in response to the arrest of Abdul Hamid Alhassan, the Northern Regional Vice Chairman of the NDC, who turned himself in to the Police on Monday following a complaint of assault against him.

The group demanded the immediate release of Alhaji Gbewaa and took action by locking the Party's regional office.

Upon visiting the NDC Regional Secretariat at midday, the Ghana Agency observed armed police officers and their vehicles stationed around the premises.

The alleged assault took place during a Regional Executive meeting at the Party's Secretariat in .

Alhaji Gbewaa is accused of assaulting Hajia Shamima Yakubu, the Northern Regional Treasurer of the NDC, during a disagreement concerning the campaign strategy for the upcoming general election.
