The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Minority has voiced strong opposition to President Akufo-Addo's recent cabinet reshuffle, labelling it as an inadequate response to the country's current economic challenges. Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, the Minority Leader, expressed disappointment in what he termed an “insipid and uninspiring” reshuffle, asserting that it falls short of addressing the pressing issues facing Ghana.
In a statement addressed to the Ghana News Agency, Dr Forson highlighted the Minority's dissatisfaction with the reshuffle, characterizing it as a last-minute attempt by the government to reorganize its administration. He criticized the timing of the reshuffle, coming so close to the end of the government's term, and argued that it would not alleviate the suffering and hardships experienced by the Ghanaian people.
Dr Forson further criticized the inclusion of individuals who had been inactive in government roles for several years, suggesting that their sudden appointment would have minimal impact on addressing the economic challenges faced by the country. He contended that these “injury time reserves” lacked the necessary experience and preparation to salvage the nation from its current predicament, which he attributed to the government's Economic Management Team.
Moreover, the Minority Leader accused President Akufo-Addo of disregarding calls from both within his party and the broader Ghanaian population for the resignation of the Finance Minister, Mr Ken Ofori-Atta. Dr Forson argued that the reshuffle should have been implemented earlier to have any meaningful impact on alleviating the hardships faced by Ghanaians.
In summary, the NDC Parliamentary Minority condemned President Akufo-Addo's reshuffle as a superficial attempt to address systemic issues, emphasizing the need for more proactive and effective measures to improve the country's economic situation and alleviate the suffering of its citizens.
