The National House of Chiefs has issued a strong call to all stakeholders involved in Ghana's electoral process, urging them to prioritize the establishment of a peaceful and transparent environment for the upcoming 2024 polls.
The House emphasized that failure to ensure free and fair elections could lead to a recurrence of the violence that marred past elections.
President of the National House of Chiefs, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II, conveyed this message during a meeting held in Kumasi.
He highlighted the critical importance of a transparent electoral process in preventing the violence that has characterized previous elections.
“The EC, political parties, media, election observers, and electorates should focus on free and fair elections, and our campaigns should be based on issues.
Campaigning should be decent and should be focused on issues, not insults or attacks on opponents,” stated Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II.
He further emphasized the need for the Electoral Commission (EC) to collaborate with all stakeholders to create an atmosphere conducive to free, fair, and peaceful elections.
The President of the National House of Chiefs stressed that electoral violence is costly and should be avoided at all costs, emphasizing, “We have only one country. That is Ghana.”
