The National Democratic Congress (NDC) delegates have reaffirmed their confidence in Muntaka's leadership by electing him to represent the constituency once again.
The primary elections, held on Saturday, May 13, 2023, saw Muntaka facing a strong challenge from Masawudu Mubarick. After a rigorous voting process, Muntaka secured 1,063 of the total valid votes cast, while his main contender, Masawudu Mubarick, trailed behind with 735 votes.
The electoral process faced an unexpected hurdle when heavy rains hit the region, causing a delay in voting, sorting, and counting.
Despite the challenging circumstances, the determination of both candidates and party officials prevailed, ensuring a fair and transparent election.
Before the primaries, Muntaka had dismissed calls for a change in leadership, emphasizing that not all change guarantees improvement in the lives of citizens.
Confident in his track record, he expressed his belief in defeating his fierce contender, Masawudu Mubarick.
He urged voters to carefully consider the consequences of change, questioning whether the country had seen improvement or deterioration since the current government came into power.
“What do you want to change to, from better to worse? I know that I have diligently served my party, I have served my constituency, and I know that by the grace of Allah, they will reward me this evening.”
