Moses Foh-Amoaning, the Executive Secretary of the National Coalition for Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values, has called on Asantehene, Otumfour Osei Tutu II to declare his stance on the anti-LGBTQ+ bill.
Lawyer Foh-Amoaning called on the paramount leader from Ghana's chieftaincy to speak and said, “When he speaks, it will reverberate.”
According to Lawyer Foh-Amoaning, the Asantehene's declaration on the anti-LGBTQ+ bill would have tremendous effects on the people's decision.
He added that Article 11 of Ghana's Constitution includes customary law as part of the law, and Article 39 requires the citizenry to educate the next generation, including customary law values, in every national policy.
Lawyer Foh-Amoaning believes that the Asantehene is a symbol of the Ashanti and Akan culture, and his declaration against LGBTQ+ would make the people hearken.
At the same public forum, Lawyer Foh-Amoaning spoke about the decision of the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, to have Members of Parliament vote publicly on the Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values bill.
He indicated that the Parliamentarians should vote based on the interest of the people they represent and not their personal interests.
Lawyer Foh-Amoaning believes that sovereignty resides in the people of Ghana, and Parliamentarians are the representatives of the people, and they should not be acting on their own.
As part of efforts to educate the public against the legalization of LGBTQ+ and its related activities in Ghana, Christian Service University College organized a symposium under the theme: “Perspective of LGBTQI+: Theological, Scientific & Legal”.
Clinical Psychologist, Dr. Isaac Newman Arthur, revealed during the symposium that most people claiming to be homosexuals found themselves as victims of sexual assaults. He added that there is a need for a law to safeguard such victims.
Dr Isaac Newman Arthur shared that a lady came to his office for consultation where she disclosed to him that she is a lesbian now because someone raped her at an early age, leading to psychological trauma. Another boy was introduced to gay sex at age nine, making him a victim.
Dr Isaac Newman Arthur also disclosed some medical consequences of indulging in LGBTQ+. According to him, HIV is higher in homosexuals because the virus spreads faster in the anal area than the vagina.
Death is also higher in such persons because life expectancy is reduced by 15%. He added that there are more rampant cases of domestic violence in homosexual relationships than in heterosexual ones.
Dr Isaac Newman Arthur emphasized that the anger in the bill is not against ordinary gays who need help but against those who are behind the advocacy of LGBTQ+.
