Masawudu Mubarick refutes allegations of being sponsored to unseat Muntaka Mubarak

Masawudu Mubarick, who received 734 votes in the primaries in the Asawase constituency, has refuted claims that he was sponsored by party leaders to aid in a supposed plan to unseat the incumbent Member of .

Mubarick participated in the primaries against the incumbent MP, Muntaka Mubarak, amidst calls for change by some party supporters in the constituency.

Muntaka Mubarak emerged victorious with 1,063 votes and alleged that certain party bigwigs were involved in a grand scheme to remove him from office after losing his position as the Minority Chief Whip.

However, Masawudu Mubarick denied these allegations, asserting that he was not used for such purposes and urged his supporters to stand behind the incumbent MP to ensure the retains the Asawase seat in the 2024 general elections.

Addressing the claims, Mubarick stated, “The issue about me being a favourite candidate, wow how lucky I am? I remember last year this same establishment barred me from contesting. So I don't think there's any iota of truth in these allegations. I wasn't in any way sponsored. 70 per cent of the money I have spent came from my personal coffers, and 30 per cent came from people I have empowered in one way or the other. I never had any contributions from any business or party person, I can say that with authority.”

He further expressed his congratulations to Muntaka Mubarak on his success in the parliamentary candidate elections and called for calm among his supporters, emphasizing the need for unity and support for the re-elected MP.

Mubarick concluded by stating, “Let's all unite and rally around our re-elected parliamentary candidate so that, come 2025, Muntaka Mubarak will return to . He has all my support, and I'm encouraging my supporters to also support him so that at the end of the day, NDC will come out victorious in the upcoming elections.”
