The Electoral Commission's registration for Ghanaians aged 18 and above in Ho showed a noticeable absence of queues on Sunday, with only a few new registrants participating in the exercise.
The limited voter registration exercise, scheduled to conclude on Tuesday, seems to have garnered limited interest among potential voters.
Meanwhile, Mr. Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe, the Director of Legal Affairs for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), paid a visit to various registration centers in the Volta Region, including the Keta and Ketu South Municipalities, Agotime-Ziope District, and Ho Municipal.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Ho, Mr. Tamakloe expressed concern about the long distances that some applicants had to travel to reach Electoral Commission offices for registration.
He emphasized that these applicants, who are first-time voters, should be encouraged by making the registration process more accessible and less burdensome.
Mr. Tamakloe highlighted the large queues observed at registration centers during his visit, underscoring the need for the Electoral Commission to heed calls from various stakeholders to expand these centers. He stated that expanding the centers would inevitably lead to an increase in the number of registrants.
The Director of Legal Affairs questioned the EC's decision to resist expanding the centers despite clear evidence that doing so would benefit the registration process.
Mr. Tamakloe was joined by several Volta Regional Executives of the NDC during his visit to the registration centers.
