Ken Ofori-Atta unaware of OSP invitation – Lawyers

**Ken Ofori-Atta declared wanted by OSP; lawyers respond** The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has officially declared former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta a fugitive and placed him on its wanted list for failing to appear for questioning in ongoing corruption-related investigations. According to Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, Ofori-Atta repeatedly ignored invitations to answer questions regarding multiple cases, including the loss reduction contract between ECG and Beijing Jao, procurement related to the National Cathedral, Health Ministry contracts with Service Ghana Auto Limited/Ambulances, and the SML-GRA deal. Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, Agyebeng stated, *“Consequently, the OSP declares Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta a wanted person. He is a fugitive from the law.”* However, Ofori-Atta’s lawyers have responded, disputing the characterization. In a letter, they stated that their client was unaware of the OSP’s invitation at the time it was issued, as the letter—dated January 24, 2025—was left at his security post while he was outside the country for medical reasons. The letter further explained that Ofori-Atta had informed both the former and current Chiefs of Staff about his medical trip abroad and is currently undergoing observation and tests. His legal team assured the OSP that they would notify the office once he is in a position to return to Ghana, adding that they remain available to provide any required information to aid investigations in the meantime. The OSP has reiterated its commitment to taking all necessary measures to ensure Ofori-Atta appears before it for questioning.
