The Member of Parliament (MP) for Lawra Constituency, Mr. Bede A. Ziedeng, has highlighted a substantial enhancement in access to potable water for the constituency's residents over the last three years.
The MP outlined his achievements and upcoming initiatives in a recent interview with the Ghana News Agency.
Since assuming office in 2021, Mr. Ziedeng reported the drilling of 12 boreholes in collaboration with development partners and utilizing his share of the Common Fund. Of these, eight boreholes are now equipped with hand pumps, and four are mechanized.
Additionally, the MP undertook the repair of over 70 non-functional boreholes within the constituency, aiming to enhance access to clean water.
Looking ahead to 2024, Mr. Ziedeng affirmed his commitment to addressing water challenges, stating, “Developing and improving the livelihoods of the people in my constituency is of utmost priority to me.
I will do whatever it takes to make sure my people have access to basic life necessities, talking about education, clean water, and health.”
Education remains a focal point for the MP, who disclosed his support for approximately 260 tertiary students from the constituency, totaling GH¢250,000.00 in fees.
The MP also pledged to continue supporting the feeding of Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates at Birifoh Senior High School during their exams.
For the health sector, Mr. Ziedeng outlined his contributions, including the renovation of health facilities like the Nanyaare clinic and the provision of clean water sources.
Notably, he donated building materials worth GH¢20,000.00 for the completion of a community-initiated maternity unit project at Boo community.
In 2024, the MP has set goals to renovate nurses' quarters at the Dowmine Health Centre, construct health facilities in two communities, and provide sheds at the Babile Polyclinic for patients and their caretakers.
