Kumasi Traditional Council issues ultimatum to NPP leadership over Chairman Wontumi's alleged insults: Ghana News

The Traditional Council has given the leadership of the New Patriotic Party () a one-week ultimatum to produce Ashanti Regional Chairman, Mr Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi), to answer questions regarding alleged derogatory remarks made against the and the golden stool.

The ultimatum was issued during a meeting between a high-powered delegation from the , led by General Secretary Mr , and the Traditional Council at the Manhyia palace on Monday.

The Council, led by Baffour Asare Owusu Amankwatia, Bantamahene, insisted that Chairman Wontumi must be physically present to address the accusations of gross insubordination.

Despite the NPP delegation's request for a two-week deadline, citing Mr Boasiako's medical treatment in , the Council maintained the one-week ultimatum, emphasizing that he should be presented “even if he was in a wheelchair.”

The traditional council also urged the delegation to bring Mr Maurice Ampaw along, citing comments he made on television regarding the issue.

However, Mr Kodua informed the council that it would be challenging to include Mr Ampaw as he made those comments in his personal capacity.

Chairman Wontumi is accused of making derogatory remarks against the and Kumasi chiefs during the vetting of NPP parliamentary aspirants in Kumasi.

Tensions have risen, leading to calls by the Asante Youth Association and other groups to ban Chairman Wontumi and the NPP leadership from entering the Manhyia palace.
