Good news for Ghanaian workers: Bahamas renews work permits for construction and engineering professionals

The Government of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas has agreed to renew work permits for Ghanaians employed in the construction and engineering sectors under private business initiatives. Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa announced this positive development following successful diplomatic engagements.

The resolution brings relief to many Ghanaian professionals and their families who had faced uncertainty regarding their legal status and continued stay in the Bahamas.

Many Ghanaians have contributed significantly to the Bahamas’ construction and engineering projects in recent years. Through constructive discussions, the issue of work permit renewals has now been resolved, ensuring continuity for affected workers.

Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa expressed appreciation to The Honourable Darron S. Pickstock, MP, Minister of State for Immigration in The Bahamas, for his leadership and cooperation in reaching this mutually beneficial outcome.

This agreement highlights the value of diplomatic engagement in protecting the interests of Ghanaian nationals abroad.

The renewal of permits will provide job security for the affected workers, allow them to continue making meaningful contributions to the Bahamas’ development, reduce uncertainty and stress for families, and strengthen bilateral relations between Ghana and The Bahamas.

Affected Ghanaians are advised to comply fully with all renewal procedures and maintain good conduct to sustain this arrangement. This development serves as encouraging news for the Ghanaian community in the Bahamas.
