The Canadian High Commissioner to Ghana, Her Excellency Myriam Montrat, has paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry as part of renewed efforts to deepen trade and investment relations between Ghana and Canada.
The meeting, held in Accra on Friday, December 19, 2025, focused on trade diversification, with particular attention on expanding market access for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) and the agribusiness sector. Discussions also covered responsible and sustainable business practices, strengthening bilateral trade partnerships, and the role of trade in supporting development.

H.E. Montrat noted that the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) offers significant opportunities that both countries can leverage to boost intra-African and global trade. She called on the Ministry to help address regulatory challenges affecting trade and investment in order to attract more Canadian businesses to Ghana.
The High Commissioner further disclosed that Air Canada has expressed interest in exploring opportunities to operate in Ghana, highlighting the importance of improved connectivity in promoting trade, tourism and people-to-people relations.
Responding, the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, welcomed the High Commissioner and expressed appreciation for Canada’s continued interest in Ghana’s economic transformation agenda. She said government’s agribusiness policy places strong emphasis on value addition to raw materials as a driver of industrial growth and job creation.
The Minister also revealed that litigation-free lands have been acquired and made available to investors interested in contract commercial farming to support local industries and strengthen value chains. She added that improved connectivity remains critical to enhancing trade, investment and bilateral relations, and reaffirmed government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for investors.
