The government has been called upon to enhance partnerships with electrical engineering companies and other stakeholders to address the pervasive issues with the country's street lighting system.
Mr Thomas Dwomoh, Head of Electrical Training Centre at Prefos Limited, an electrical and civil engineering company in Kumasi, emphasized the urgent need for collaboration to find a lasting solution to the poor state of street lighting across the nation.
Speaking at the Annual Thanksgiving and Awards ceremony of Prefos Limited in Adako-Jachie, Mr Dwomoh highlighted the widespread challenges with malfunctioning or nonexistent streetlights in various areas. He stressed that engaging industry players is crucial to effectively tackle this national problem.
Prefos Limited is committed to providing more workplace experience through its training centre, focusing on photovoltaic technology.
Additionally, the company aims to contribute to Ghana's industrialization agenda by establishing a modern 570KVA solar assembly plant and a solar farm.
This initiative aligns with Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education.
Mr Dwomoh underscored the importance of the facility in building a more robust economy through knowledge sharing and capacity building for the youth.
The Training Centre has affiliated with the Partner Africa Project in 2023, dedicated to championing the Green Africa agenda by providing photovoltaic solar training to African individuals.
Sponsored by the Government of Germany, this project will equip Prefos Electrical Training Centre with modern facilities and equipment, offering stipends to train the youth in solar technology.
The awards ceremony at Prefos Limited recognized the dedication and hard work of its members in 2023, emphasizing the company's commitment to excellence in electrical engineering and related fields.
