A delegation of six members from Gideons International, a Christian fellowship, has presented a customized Bible to Speaker Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin and 275 Bibles to all Members of Parliament (MPs) at Parliament House in Accra.
The gesture aims to provide inspiration and strength to legislators in their demanding roles. Mr. Lord Winter, National Chairman of Gideons International, emphasized the importance of the word of God in keeping the soul and body together and strengthening individuals in their work.
Speaker Bagbin acknowledged the role of prayer in Parliament's daily proceedings, stating that the House sought God's guidance and vision. He emphasized the peaceful nature of the country, despite conflicts in neighbouring countries, attributing it in part to these prayers.
The Speaker expressed gratitude for the donation, assuring the delegation that the Bibles would be put to good use for the benefit of the House and the nation.
Mr. Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, President of the Parliamentary Christian Fellowship and National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP for Ho West, highlighted the significance of the Bible in the work of Parliament, from the day of their swearing-in to committee meetings.
Other members present during the courtesy call recognized Gideons International's commendable efforts in spreading the word of God and encouraged them to provide Bibles for other staff members of the Parliamentary Service.
