The Ghana Shippers' Authority (GSA) has received a Certificate of Merit on International Customs Day from the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) for its outstanding services and dedication to advancing the interests of shippers and stakeholders in the shipping and logistics sector.
This recognition highlights the significant role played by the GSA in supporting the Customs Division of the GRA in achieving its revenue target for the year ending 2023.
The award was presented during the International Customs Day event, themed “Customs Engaging Traditional and New Partners with Purpose,” which served as a platform for industry players to assess performance and explore avenues for enhancing Customs operations.
Mr. Kwesi Baffour Okyere Sarpong, CEO of the GSA, emphasized the importance of collaboration between key state agencies and the private sector for the growth of the Shipping Sector.
He reaffirmed the GSA's commitment to strengthening partnerships with the Customs Division to serve the interests of shippers effectively.
Sarpong remarked, “The collaborative approach signaled by Customs is essential in cultivating an environment that not only supports but enhances the efficiency, security, and evolving trend of domestic and international trade.”
Alhaji Iddrisu Iddisah Seidu, Commissioner of the Customs Division of the GRA, speaking on behalf of Mr. Ian Saunders, Secretary-General of the World Customs Organization (WCO), expressed the WCO's intention to establish new partnerships with various institutions to align efforts with the overarching focus on the value of customs.
The event featured presentations on pertinent topics by industry experts, including Mrs. Abena Serwaa Opoku-Fosu from the Tema Port, Mr. Divine Agbeko, and Mr. Baffour Yaw Asare, Former Deputy Commissioner of Operations at the Customs Division of the GRA.
