The Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF) has extended a helping hand to the Sunyani Youth Development Association (SYDA) by providing apprenticeship tools and equipment valued at GH¢140,000.00.

The donation includes various electric sewing machines and artisanal tools, aiming to bolster SYDA's Integrated Skill Project, Phase Two, which focuses on providing essential skill training for vulnerable young individuals.

The comprehensive skill project offered by the Association covers an array of trades, including kente weaving, smock sewing, fashion design, cosmetology, bicycle repairs, auto-mechanics, bead craft, hairdressing (cream and braid), aluminium fabrication, solar energy technology, carpentry (wood technology), and visual arts.

Ambassador Gorge Kumi, a member of the GIIF, expressed optimism about the impact of the machines on SYDA's capacity to enrol more unemployed youth in skill training programs.

He highlighted the potential of employable skills training in addressing unemployment, creating wealth, and reducing poverty. Ambassador Kumi commended SYDA for its vision and innovative approach to youth employment.

Mr John Ansu Kumi, the Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive, assured that the government, through the Assembly and the Member of Parliament, was actively addressing the developmental needs of the municipality.

He praised SYDA for its contributions to reducing unemployment in the area and invited the Association to collaborate with the Assembly for holistic municipal development.

Mr. Atta Akoto Snr., the President of SYDA, reflected on the Association's mission since its formation in 2015, emphasizing its commitment to breaking barriers and enhancing youth development in the municipality and parts of the Bono Region.

He acknowledged the late Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri II, the Paramount Chief of the Sunyani Traditional Area, for inspiring the formation of SYDA and supporting its early activities.

Mr. Akoto Snr. revealed that SYDA was planning to launch its “green solution for entrepreneurship development project” to promote awareness of green energy solutions for entrepreneurship.

Additionally, in collaboration with the Manna Education Development Foundation, an NGO, the Association would construct a crèche to accommodate the children of trainees, ensuring that apprentices can complete their training without hindrance.

Expressing gratitude to GIIF for their support, Mr. Akoto Snr. expressed hope that other state and non-state actors, organizations, and corporate bodies would join hands with SYDA to provide skill training opportunities for vulnerable unemployed individuals in the region.
