Gwollu, Upper West Region – More than 1,000 pupils from the Sissala West District who gained admission into various Senior High Schools (SHS) have each received educational support packages, including mattresses, trunks, buckets, and eight exercise books, to aid their transition into secondary education.
The initiative, spearheaded by Mr Mohammed Adams Sukparu, Member of Parliament for Sissala West and Deputy Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation (MOCDTI), forms part of his Social Intervention Policy (SIP). The programme aims to ease the financial burden on parents and ensure that every student, regardless of background, has access to quality education.

The presentation ceremony, held at the forecourt of the District Assembly, brought together education authorities, assembly members, parents, teachers, students, and local party executives.
Presenting the items on behalf of the MP, Mr Abudu Fuseini Gbene, District Chief Executive (DCE), said the gesture reflected the MP’s deep commitment to education and community development.
“Education remains my topmost priority, and I will continue to support my constituents with passion and dedication through my social intervention policy,” he emphasized.
Mr Gbene added that the intervention would lessen parents’ financial pressures while encouraging students to work hard and remain disciplined.
“My wish is that every student in the Sissala West constituency will continue their education to Senior High and tertiary institutions,” he said.
Mr Sumaila Bukari, Deputy Director of Education (Finance and Administration), expressed gratitude to the MP for his generosity, noting that the donation would significantly impact parents and students alike.
One beneficiary parent, Madam Cecilia Alidu Baah, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the support came at a crucial time.
“I’ve been worried about how to afford these items for my ward. As a petty farmer, I depend solely on my farm produce for income, but since we are not harvesting yet, it was a serious challenge. This help is timely, and we are grateful to the MP,” she said.
Sister Banjniberu Gloria, a top student from Filemuo T.I. Ahmadiyya Basic School, speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, also expressed appreciation.
“We’re forever grateful to the MP for the support. It means a lot to us, and we’ll study hard to achieve our dreams and make him proud,” she stated.
The initiative has been widely praised across the district as a lifeline for rural families, reaffirming the MP’s dedication to educational equity and youth empowerment in Sissala West.
