Mr Hakim Adei, Central Regional Council of State Member, has called on Ghanaians to rally behind government’s efforts to eliminate illegal mining (galamsey), warning that the practice is destroying the nation’s lands and water bodies at the hands of a few greedy individuals.
He made the appeal during the 44th Anniversary and 4th Speech and Prize-Giving Day of Twifo Praso Senior High School (SHS) in the Twifo Atti-Morkwa District of the Central Region. The event was held on the theme: “21st Century Skills and the World of Work, the Role of Modern-day Education.”

Mr Adei stressed that only a united and concerted national effort could overcome the menace of galamsey, urging all citizens and residents to play their part in protecting the environment.
The Headteacher of Twifo Praso SHS, Mr Daniel Kofi Aidoo, highlighted pressing challenges facing the school, including inadequate classrooms, dormitories, and computers, as well as the absence of a school bus. He noted that the institution was forced to rent buses for official activities, which placed a heavy financial burden on management. He appealed for urgent government intervention and requested that the school be placed on the single-track system.
Mr Isaac Yawson, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Twifo Atti-Morkwa, assured that government remained committed to supporting the school. He announced plans to provide a modern ICT laboratory and other developmental projects to meet the district’s educational needs.
Nana Kenny IV, Omanhene of Twifo Atti-Morkwa, advised students to avoid drug abuse and negative behaviours that could jeopardise their health and future.
