Ghana Bar Association ready to support KNUST Law Faculty in prestigious Moot Court Competition

The (GBA) has expressed its readiness to provide technical support to the Law Faculty of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology () as it aims to win the 32nd Chrstof Heyns African Human Rights Moot Court Competition.

This competition is a crucial platform for students, scholars, and judges to discuss human rights issues in Africa.

The competition gathers law faculties from across Africa, with top students arguing a hypothetical human rights case before the African Court on Human and Peoples' Rights.

The theme for this year's event is “The Africa We Want: Combating Discrimination, , and .”

GBA President, Mr. Yaw Boafo, assured participants of the Association's commitment to supporting the students' preparation and training in collaboration with the faculty. The goal is for the students to win the competition and maintain their status as defending champions.

The event is scheduled to take place from September 3 to 9, 2023. , as the host, aims to maintain its winning formula of “host and win” and leave a memorable impression as both the defending champions and host of this year's competition.

The 32nd Chrstof Heyns African Human Rights Moot Court Competition will see 68 from across Africa participating. The hypothetical case will address issues related to , sexual minorities' rights, and harmful practices.

Since its establishment in 1992, the competition has seen the participation of about 170 from 47 African countries. It has played a crucial role in promoting human rights teaching and research on the continent and preparing future lawyers to advocate cases involving alleged human rights violations.
