Assembly Members in the Tempane District have condemned the killing of an Immigration Officer and alleged military excesses against civilians in parts of the district, describing the incidents as “gruesome” and “unjustifiable.”
In a statement jointly signed by 25 Assembly Members and shared with the Ghana News Agency, the members expressed outrage over the November 2, 2025, shooting of two Immigration Officers at Nagani, a border community near Togo.

The statement further alleged that armed men in military uniform stormed the Rasta Drinking Spot in Bugnating, maiming individuals and arresting several young men, before proceeding to Domeabra near the Tempane Chief’s Palace to assault and detain more residents.
The Assembly Members questioned the rationale behind what they described as “undemocratic and inhumane” actions, noting that the affected communities had long cooperated with security agencies in maintaining peace.
They criticised the operations as “an unintelligent and lazy approach to dealing with a volatile border security situation,” stressing that professional and intelligence-led operations were essential to maintaining border security.
The statement highlighted the erosion of trust between citizens and security services, stating that “citizens who had always supported security operations now felt betrayed and unsafe.” It condemned the assaults as “unacceptable” and called on the government and the Ghana Armed Forces to restore confidence and justice.
Assembly Members appealed for thorough investigations into both the killing of the Immigration Officer and the alleged military brutalities, urging prosecution of the responsible parties and compensation for victims.
They also demanded that security agencies ensure the humane treatment of arrested individuals and cover medical expenses for those injured.
The statement was copied to the President, Ministers of Defence and Interior, Upper East Regional Minister, and all relevant security agencies.
It concluded with a commitment to pursue justice through legitimate channels and prayers for all victims of the incidents.
