Tamale Metro Assembly to launch National Sanitation Day

The Tamale Metropolitan Assembly (TaMA) will on Saturday launch the National Sanitation Day in the metropolis as part of efforts to promote environmental health and public well-being.

The initiative forms part of the nationwide Clean Up Ghana agenda spearheaded by former President John Dramani Mahama‘s administration and re-launched on September 6, 2025. It is aimed at instilling a culture of cleanliness and shared responsibility among citizens.

This was contained in a statement signed by Mr Amadu Mustapha Zakari, Public Relations Officer of TaMA, and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Tamale.

According to the statement, the inaugural exercise will be led by the Metropolitan Chief Executive, Alhaji Adam Abubakari Takoro, at the Central Business District (CBD). The CBD clean-up will serve as the ceremonial event to kick-start the initiative.

The statement indicated that the exercise will be held every first Saturday of the month across the metropolis. All shops and commercial activities are expected to remain closed between 7:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon during the exercise.

“Residents, households and businesses are urged to clean their immediate surroundings to ensure maximum participation and impact,” the statement directed.

It further said security personnel would be deployed to monitor compliance and ensure a smooth exercise.

The Assembly has called on residents to embrace the initiative and make it a lasting habit for the collective good of the metropolis.
