In her remarks, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang extended warm wishes to women across Ghana and highlighted the significant roles women have played throughout the country’s history.
She noted that women have long contributed to community development and economic growth, serving as healers, traders, and influential queen mothers within traditional governance systems.
She stressed that present-day gender disparities should prompt society to critically examine existing systems and structures that may have limited opportunities for women.
According to her, addressing these gaps requires deliberate action, including mentoring and supporting the next generation of women leaders.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang also drew attention to women working outside formal institutions, particularly those in markets, on the streets, and in small trading spaces across the country. She described them as the backbone of local economies and praised their resilience despite the challenges they face daily.
She commended the women working within the Presidency for their commitment and leadership, adding that promoting equity, respect, and opportunity for every woman is vital to strengthening governance and achieving sustainable national development.
The former vice-presidential candidate also called on both men and women to work together to break down barriers and create an environment where every woman can thrive and fully contribute to the country’s progress.
