Vice President visits the Interior Ministry to discuss public safety and law enforcement

Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, on Monday, July 13, 2026, paid a working visit to the Ministry of the Interior to assess its recent work, ongoing challenges, and strategies for enhancing public safety and law enforcement.

Addressing officials, the Vice President underscored the importance of public education in effective law enforcement, stressing that enforcement efforts must always serve the best interests of the people. She urged the security services to clearly communicate the benefits of complying with the law.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang also called for the consistent application of appropriate sanctions to deter violations, saying a balanced approach that combines public education and enforcement is essential for maintaining peace and order.

The meeting was attended by the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak; Deputy Minister Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi; and the Director General of the Ghana Prisons Service, Patience Baffoe-Bonnie.

It also brought together heads of security agencies and representatives of the National Peace Council, the National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons, the Gaming Commission, and the National Identification Authority.

The visit forms part of the Vice President’s engagements with Ministries, Departments and Agencies to strengthen coordination, identify operational challenges, and improve service delivery in the country’s internal security sector.
