Leading the delegation, Mr Morton conveyed the government’s condolences to the bereaved family, assuring them of full support to ensure a dignified burial for the deceased. He emphasised the Assembly’s solidarity with the family during their period of grief.
He also urged residents to exercise maximum caution when walking or operating near railway tracks, stressing that train movement could be constant and unpredictable. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing safety measures along railway corridors within the municipality.
Ms Sahadatu Alhassan, Corporate Affairs Manager of the GRDA, expressed heartfelt sympathies to the family and described the incident as very unfortunate. She noted that rail transport exists to serve communities, not endanger them, and emphasised the GRDA’s commitment to strengthening railway safety education.
She stated that intensified sensitisation programmes would be rolled out to ensure residents clearly understand the dangers of crossing tracks at unauthorised points. She added that the Authority would continue collaborating with local assemblies and community leaders to prevent similar tragedies.
