The makeshift Jubilee Park Market, established five years ago to enforce social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic, will officially shut down on October 13, 2025.
The Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) announced that all transport terminals and operations currently situated at the park will also cease and be moved to the Apremdo Central Market (Abenbebom) Lorry Station. The new location is equipped with designated spaces for traders and facilities designed to accommodate bulk cargo.

MUSEC explained that the decision forms part of plans to repurpose Jubilee Park, which was originally built to commemorate Ghana’s Golden Jubilee. In the Western Region, however, the park was converted into a temporary trading hub during the 2019 pandemic—a move that stirred opposition from residents who maintained that Abenbebom would have been a more appropriate venue, though political considerations prevailed at the time.
The Council has urged traders and stakeholders to comply with the directive, cautioning that failure to do so could attract sanctions, including the forfeiture of goods, in line with the Assembly’s bye-laws.
