Gender Ministry condemns alleged digital sexual exploitation, assures action

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has issued a statement condemning the alleged non-consensual recording and circulation of intimate content involving Ghanaian women by a foreign national.

In a statement dated 14th February 2026, the Ministry said it had taken note of reports suggesting that the individual engaged in sexual activities with some Ghanaian women and recorded and distributed the acts without their consent.

Preliminary information indicates that the suspect may no longer be within Ghana’s jurisdiction. However, the Ministry stressed that this does not lessen the seriousness of the alleged offence or the State’s obligation to pursue accountability.

The Ministry emphasized that the non-consensual recording and distribution of intimate images constitutes a criminal offence and a violation of privacy and human dignity.

It further disclosed that prior to the emergence of the reports, MoGCSP had already been collaborating with the Ministry of Communication and Digital Innovations and relevant agencies to strengthen measures against image-based sexual abuse.

These efforts include digital safety interventions, engagement with online platforms, and improved reporting and takedown mechanisms for abusive content. Authorities are applying these measures to the current matter.

The Ministry stated that it is working closely with the Ghana Police Service, security agencies, and international partners to explore all lawful options available, including cross-border cooperation and mutual legal assistance where necessary.

Support services, including psychosocial care and legal assistance, are being coordinated through confidential channels to safeguard the privacy and well-being of affected persons.

The Ministry also reminded the public that toll-free helplines for complaints and abuse-related issues are available via 0800-800-800, 0800-900-900, and 0800-111-222.

The Ministry urged the public to exercise caution in both online and offline interactions and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the rights, safety, and dignity of all persons.
