Three remanded over alleged lynching at Kumasi’s Sabon Zongo

Three suspects have been arrested and remanded into police custody in connection with the alleged lynching of a man at Sabon Zongo in Kumasi.

According to a statement issued by the Ashanti Regional Police Command, the suspects were arraigned before the Asokore Mampong District Court following investigations into the death of Yusuf Zakari.

Police said preliminary investigations indicate that in the early hours of July 19, 2026, the victim was allegedly attacked by a group of people at a cattle kraal in Sabon Zongo.

The statement said Yusuf Zakari sustained severe injuries and was initially taken to the Manhyia Government Hospital before being referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The three accused persons were identified as Moses Adoko, 37, a plumber; Abubakari Adams, 25, a herdsman; and Nurudeen Suleman, 35, a motor mechanic.

They were subsequently arraigned before the Asokore Mampong District Court, presided over by Her Worship Mrs Hilder Esther Wryter, which remanded all three into police custody. They are scheduled to reappear before the court on August 7, 2026.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command said investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and to identify and arrest any other persons who may have been involved.

The police also urged members of the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and to report suspected criminal activities through the nearest police station or by calling the emergency numbers 191, 112 or the MTN toll-free line 18555.

The Command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that all persons connected with the incident are brought to justice through due process of law.
