Family of late former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings appeals for privacy as nation mourns

Accra, Oct. 24, GNA. The family of the late former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, has appealed for privacy as they grieve her passing on Thursday, October 23, 2025.

At a brief press conference at her Ridge residence in Accra, the family head, Oheneba Lovelace Prempeh, said that details regarding the burial of Ghana’s first female presidential candidate would be communicated by the President in due course.

He confirmed that the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, had been duly informed of the passing of the wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings.

“The family has informed His Excellency the President, who, in turn, caused a statement to be issued confirming Nana Konadu’s death. At this stage, we are in deep mourning and respectfully ask for privacy. All further announcements will be made by the government,” Mr Prempeh stated.

Mrs Rawlings, 76, passed away on Thursday morning after a short illness, leaving behind a legacy of advocacy for women’s empowerment and social transformation.
