The Ewe Loyalty Foundation, a non-governmental organisation, has donated sanitary pads to schoolgirls at the Sogakope D.A. Basic ‘B’ School in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region to promote menstrual health, hygiene, and quality education.
The donation, part of the Foundation’s fifth anniversary activities, seeks to address challenges faced by girls who often miss school during their menstrual periods due to the inability to afford sanitary pads.

Mr Shine Setor, Secretary of the Foundation, who presented the items on behalf of the organisation, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that promoting good menstrual hygiene practices among girls in rural communities was crucial to ensuring their uninterrupted education.
“This donation is part of our routine work, and today’s support is in line with our fifth anniversary launch. We hope that these items will help prevent challenges faced by girls during their periods,” he said.
He explained that many girls from underprivileged backgrounds are compelled to stay away from school during menstruation, which affects their academic performance and self-esteem. The Foundation’s initiative, he noted, aims to empower these girls to manage their periods with dignity and confidence.
“With this essential support, we vehemently believe that this assistance will empower beneficiary girls to manage their menstruation with dignity and confidence even during school hours,” Mr Setor added.
He urged teachers to guide students on the proper use of the sanitary pads and encouraged the beneficiaries to use the items responsibly for their own well-being and future.
Mr Setor further explained that the Ewe Loyalty Foundation focuses on supporting the less privileged, orphans, and vulnerable individuals, adding that such donations reflect the organisation’s commitment to making a meaningful difference in society.
Mrs Juliana Kokofi, Headteacher of Sogakope D.A. Basic ‘B’ School, who received the items, expressed appreciation to the Foundation for the gesture. She noted that menstruation remains a major factor affecting girls’ school attendance and academic performance, particularly among those from low-income families.
“The donation will undoubtedly make a positive impact on the lives of our girls. It will promote menstrual hygiene and help reduce the stigma associated with menstruation, ultimately improving their health, well-being, and education,” she said.
Some of the beneficiary students expressed joy and gratitude for the donation, promising to use the sanitary pads appropriately. They also appealed to other benevolent individuals and organisations to emulate the Ewe Loyalty Foundation’s example to help curb menstrual-related challenges faced by schoolgirls.
