According to police sources, the recovered cables are believed to be part of materials stolen from various ECG installations across the country. The theft of such infrastructure has in recent years contributed to frequent power disruptions and costly repairs.
Authorities say the cables, weighing over 100 tonnes, were retrieved from warehouses and storage points suspected to be linked to an illegal network involved in the theft and resale of electrical infrastructure.
Investigators are currently working to identify and arrest individuals connected to the operation. Police say the raid forms part of a broader effort to clamp down on the growing problem of cable theft, which has significantly affected power distribution in several communities.
Officials from the Electricity Company of Ghana have welcomed the recovery, noting that the stolen materials represent significant national assets used in maintaining electricity supply across the country.
The Ghana Police Service has assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that anyone found to be involved in the illegal trade of stolen electrical materials will face the full rigours of the law.
